Background

Bob Krefting has more than thirty years experience in the magazine, direct marketing, and book publishing industries. Over the course of his career he has managed operations both large and small, in the private as well as public sectors. He has participated in more than thirty acquisitions and divestitures, as well as numerous launches and business close-downs. He also spent seven years as a management consultant, assisting clients in the communications, marketing, and venture capital fields. His goal is to use the many lessons learned from his experiences to help other executives with both managerial development and business strategy.

Most recently, Bob was Senior Vice President and President of International Magazine Publishing of The Reader’s Digest Association, Inc., with responsibility for overseeing magazine publishing efforts of forty-seven editions outside the United States. He was also Chairman of the Board of BrandDirect Marketing, a membership services company.

Prior to joining Reader’s Digest, Krefting established Holly Hill Publishing, a management services company. He set up a general management consulting business with clients in the communication, marketing, and venture capital fields. From 1984 to 1991, he was President of Park Avenue Publishing, creating a small, multi-title business-to-business publishing company funded by Pritzker investment entities. Krefting built a medical publishing subsidiary through acquisition of Labmedica and Hospimedica and launched European editions of these two titles. He also acquired Illustrated Medicine, a pharmaceutical sponsorship publication, and added Canadian and U.K. editions.

From 1985 to 1986 Krefting was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of McCall Publishing Company, also owned by the Pritzkers. He was with CBS Publishing (the magazine and paperback book publishing division of CBS Inc.) from 1974 to 1983, starting as a Group Vice President, and served as President from 1979 to 1983. Before CBS, he was with Psychology Today in Del Mar, California, where he served as Associate Publisher. He began his career at Time Incorporated, where he served in various marketing and management positions.

Krefting graduated magna cum laude from Williams College and has been a member of the Magazine Publisher’s Association, Direct Marketing Association, and Young President’s Organization. He serves as a Trustee of International House in New York City. He and his wife, Sally, live in Waccabuc, New York. They have five children.
